DeepSeek will be banned in the US, predicts ARM CEO
DeepSeek is the newest player in AI, and its R1 model is already built into the products and services of Huawei, Honor, Microsoft, and even some automakers. The Chinese-made platform quickly gained popularity in the US, reaching the top spot in the App Store almost overnight.
ARM CEO Rene Haas has now shared his assessment of DeepSeek’s future with the Financial Times, stating that the company could be forced to shut down “due to foreign policy” implications arising from its status as a Chinese company.
Haas pointed out that his forecast reflects developments in recent weeks regarding TikTok. The social media platform, owned by ByteDance and originating in China, faces the possibility of a split in its US operations or a possible shutdown despite the delay in the ban.
DeepSeek has no American offices and uses its open-source AI model, called R1, for its app and web service. Although access to the service may be restricted, users can still download the language model and use it on their own devices.
