American Express announces new Apple Pay feature

As an American Express cardholder, you can now finally redeem your Membership Rewards points when paying with Apple Pay for online purchases. The points can be redeemed directly within the secure Apple Pay checkout process, without having to leave the transaction, open another app, or complete any additional redemption steps.

When paying with Apple Pay on iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 (or later), tap your eligible American Express card (Platinum, Gold, Green, etc.) and select the “Membership Rewards Points” option. You can use all or part of the points toward your purchase. 10,000 points redeemed through Apple Pay are equivalent to a $70 credit on your credit card statement. American Express points out that Apple does not store any transaction information in this case. To add your card to Apple Pay, open the Wallet app, tap the “+” button, hold your card against your iPhone, and follow the instructions. Then set your card as your default Apple Pay card—that’s it!
