Apple Wallet on the iPhone gets six new features in iOS 27

Apple’s iOS 27 update, released this week, includes many new features and improvements for the Apple Wallet app on the iPhone. Here are six new features of the Apple Wallet app in iOS 27.
Extended Passes
With iOS 26, improved boarding passes were introduced for Apple Wallet, and iOS 27 will gradually extend this improved functionality to all other card types in the app, including loyalty program cards, rewards cards, membership cards, and gift cards.

The newer passports feature a more sophisticated design with more detailed background images; below these are tiles containing relevant information. Apple has also introduced a new macOS app called Pass Designer, which allows users to create and preview passports. Pass Designer is available as a beta version for macOS 27.
Apple has released a WWDC 2026 video showcasing new features that are slated to be integrated into the Wallet app this year. A page with further details is also available on the developer website.
Extended Hotel Keys
iOS 27 supports enhanced digital keys in Apple Wallet at participating hotels and resorts. You can view more detailed information about your trips, get updates on booked activities, access services available during your stay, and much more. Apple has not released a list of hotel brands or locations that offer these enhanced keys.
Create passports

You can now create custom passes in Apple Wallet by scanning physical cards such as loyalty cards or membership cards. With the new Siri mode in the Camera app, you can simply point your iPhone at any physical card with a barcode and save it to Apple Wallet. Once added, you can show the cards directly on your iPhone as a barcode or QR code.
New barcode types
Wallet passports can display four new barcode types: EAN-13, Code 39, Codabar and ITF.
Share bills with Apple Cash
Only in the US does iOS 27 enable splitting bills with a new feature powered by Apple Cash and Apple Intelligence. This feature is available in the Apple Wallet and Messages apps, as well as through the new Siri mode in the Camera app.

“When users point Siri at a receipt, Siri can display the corresponding action to split the bill with Apple Cash and identify the items on the receipt. […] As users select their items, their total amount, including tax and tip, is calculated so they can pay back exactly the amount due with Apple Cash.”
Order tracking for Apple Wallet orders in more countries
Starting with iOS 27, the order tracking feature of Apple Wallet is also available in Australia and Canada. Previously, this feature was limited to the US and UK.
Availability of iOS 27
iOS 27 is currently available as a developer beta; a public beta will follow in July. The update is expected to be released to all users in September.
iOS 27 is compatible with the iPhone 11 series and newer models.
