Google SynthID Detector: AI image, video, and audio checker for everyone

Starting today, the Google SynthID Detector is available in English for all users worldwide. This tool can determine whether an image, video, or audio file was created using AI from Google, OpenAI, Nvidia, or Kakao.

The Google SynthID Detector will soon also recognize media created with Apple’s AI tools. Google states that since the launch of SynthID in 2023, it has flagged over 180 billion images and videos, as well as 240,000 years of audio material, as AI-altered.
Google SynthID Detector embeds watermarks
SynthID embeds imperceptible watermarks in images, videos, and audio files, and the SynthID detector searches specifically for these watermarks. If it finds any, it indicates that the media was created using AI. The principle is simple.
An early version of the SynthID Detector was made available to certain “media professionals” last year, and it was also possible to ask Gemini whether certain media were created with AI, but now you can simply perform the test yourself on the SynthID Detector website.
