DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro with 4h battery life and 30W charging is here
The GoPro Hero13 Black now has real competition in the form of the newly announced DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro. DJI touts a “groundbreaking” dynamic range of 13.5 stops and a battery life of four hours with its 1,950 mAh battery. Even at -20 °C (-4 °F), it can record for up to 3.6 hours. In comparison, the “industry average for action camera battery life” is 2 hours. In addition, DJI’s 30 watt USB-C charger returns 2 hours of recording time in a 15 minute charge time.
The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro’s camera has a 1/1.3 inch sensor with 2.4 μm pixel size. It can record 4K video at 60 frames per second in low light and capture “intricate shadow details without overexposing highlights,” according to the official press release. There’s also a SuperNight mode with AI noise reduction that promises “cleaner, clearer footage.”
The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro has built-in subject centering and tracking powered by machine learning algorithms. It can dive 20m deep without a housing, while the built-in color temperature sensor captures true-to-life colors underwater. You can even set it to automatically start recording when it submerges and stop after it surfaces. Its pressure gauge records depth, duration, and altitude data underwater to keep you safe.
The camera’s OLED displays have a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, and the screen-to-body ratio is now 16% better thanks to the larger panel and narrower bezels. The Osmo Action 5 Pro can also connect directly to the DJI Mic 2 Transmitter via Bluetooth to save ultra-high sample rate audio recordings.
Also on board is 47GB of storage, as well as fast Wi-Fi 6 and USB 3.0 connections for data transfers of up to 80MB/s. There’s support for Wi-Fi live streaming, timecode for syncing footage from multiple cameras, Pre-Rec, which starts recording before you press record, and Highlight for quickly marking important moments to make editing easier.
DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro comes with a decent range of accessories
The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro is now available in two packages. The standard set costs $349 and includes the camera, the Osmo Action Extreme Battery Plus (1,950mAh), the Osmo Action horizontal and vertical protective frame, the quick-release adapter mount, the curved adhesive base, the locking screw, a Type-C to Type-C PD cable, the rubber lens protector, the glass lens cover, and the anti-slip pad.
The $449 Adventure Kit also includes the Osmo Action (Mini) Quick Release Adapter Mount, Osmo Action’s Multifunctional Battery Case, and Osmo’s 1.5m Extension Pole.
