Avengers: Endgame Encore reveals new Doomsday details

Six years after its theatrical release, one of the most important films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame, returned to theaters with an extended version, Avengers: Endgame Encore. This version is four minutes longer than the original and officially premiered on September 25th.

On September 23, numerous accounts released additional scenes from “Avengers: Endgame Encore” after some moviegoers illegally recorded them during screenings. This additional material serves as supplementary material for the upcoming MCU blockbuster “Avengers: Doomsday,” which hits theaters on December 18. The film includes three entirely new scenes that set up the major multiverse crisis that will be the focus of “Avengers: Doomsday.”
The original final scene, in which Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) dance after he travels back in time to spend a life with his true love, has been changed. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) now appears at the door, presumably explaining why Captain America returns in “Doomsday” not as an old man, but in his prime, as Loki is now the “Guardian of Time” and an ally of the Time Variance Authority.
Speaking of TVA: It also appears midway through the end credits of Encore, with a new scene in its central control room. Mobius M. (Owen Wilson) arrives for what appears to be a normal workday, but discovers that thousands of universes are destroyed in the so-called Incursions when two universes collide.
In a post-credits scene, fans see Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) after the events of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Banner is now trapped in an underground facility, hoping to contain his alter ego, the Hulk, while he conducts further gamma-ray experiments. But then an unexpected visitor appears: Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). Although Doom isn’t shown on screen, he utters a line that is barely audible in the leaked footage, leading to various interpretations. All that’s certain is that Banner disappears, and the symbol of Latveria is engraved on the floor of his room.
What do the new scenes from Avengers: Endgame reveal about Doomsday?
The most important news is that Hulk could appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which is great news for fans of the original Avengers lineup. However, Doom might have other plans for Banner, so nothing is set in stone at this point.

We’ve also received some confirmation regarding the dynamics of the Incursions, which are said to function similarly to the Marvel comic storyline “Time Runs Out,” which inspired Doomsday: One of the two colliding universes can attempt to destroy the other to prevent mutual annihilation. If this fails, both universes are doomed. Finally, it appears that Loki has recruited Steve Rogers, most likely to stop the Incursions or Doom’s plan—whatever that may be.
Overall, there isn’t a lot of new information, but the new scenes certainly serve their purpose of preparing for the upcoming Avengers movie and establishing a stronger connection to Endgame.
Avengers: Endgame Encore tops the box office charts
The opening weekend of Avengers: Endgame Encore was so successful that it clearly demonstrated the high anticipation for a new Avengers film. According to Deadline, the film topped the box office charts last weekend, grossing an estimated $26 million in its first three days.
While this is far from the opening weekend of a brand new superhero movie, it’s a remarkable result for a re-release with very little new material.
The strong opening weekend is all the more impressive considering Endgame Encore faced stiff competition. The successful Resident Evil film adaptation entered its second weekend, and new films such as Paramount’s The Heart of the Beast, A24’s Primetime, and DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island premiered in theaters. Below is Deadline’s full list of the top ten highest-grossing films of the past weekend:
- Avengers: Endgame Encore – $26 million
- Resident Evil – $23.3 million
- Heart of the Beast – $20 million
- Primetime – $19.1 million
- Forgotten Island – $12.8 million
- Magical Sisters 2 – $5.4 million
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day – $4.15 million
- The Odyssey – $3.7 million
- Coyote vs. ACME – $1.7 million
- Daniel and the Fiery Furnace – $1.514 million
This re-release of Encore increased Endgame’s total box office gross in the US to $884.3 million, confirming its status as one of the highest-grossing films of all time in the US alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Endgame Encore bodes well for Doomsday, which Encore directly sets up with its new post-credits scenes. It would be no surprise if Doomsday becomes a huge hit on December 18th.
